SoTD: Cheech And Chong – Black Lassie (A Great American Dog)

11/30/2008

image

Hi, I’m Johnny Stash
And I’m here to sing about
A great American dog
Black Lassie

Hit it, Carl

She was born in the Detroit ghetto
During the riots of ‘65
Her daddy was a big fat alley rat
But he could lick a dog twice his size

Her mama was
A long legged Afghan
And she came from the
High class part of town

But late at night
When the moon got bright
Her and the rat
Really went to town

Black Lassie, fat and sassy
She started poor, aw
But now she’s rich

She’s the queen

Of the doggy world
Black Lassie is a ghetto
(Sssh, don’t you say it)
But I’m talking about Black Lassie

Now I want everybody to listen
While Carl plays with his wa-wa

That was Carl and his wa-wa
Thank you very much, Carl
That’s just fine

You can stop now, Carl
Carl, you can stop now
Gimme that wa-wa, Carl

Don’t you ever try to play when I’m
Singing about a great American dog

Black Lassie, fat and sassy
She started poor, aw
But now she’s rich

She’s the queen of
All the doggies in the world
Because Black Lassie
She’s a ghetto
(Sssh, don’t you say it)
But I’m talking about Black Lassie

A great American
Half dog, half rat
Don’t mess with her
Because she’a a real (shut up)

Aw, shut up, yourself
I wasn’t gonna say bitch
I’m talking about Black Lassie

I can just see little Timmy now
Standing in front of that liquor store
Calling his dog

Here, Black Lassie
Here, Black Lassie
Come over here, girl
Get out that trashcan
And come over here

Woo, you stink, where you been
In that store, playing with men again
Come over here, girl
I got a cheeseburger for you

That’s right, sit up
Aw, that’s a good girl
Aw, God, you’re ugly
Those beady eyes
But I love you, girl

Speak for me, girl
Speak for me
I love you

SoTD: The Temptations – Papa Was A Rollin’ Stone

11/29/2008

It was the third of September; that day I’ll always remember,
‘Cause that was the day that my daddy died.
I never got a chance to see him;
Never heard nothin’ but bad things about him.
Mama I’m depending on you to tell me the truth.

Mama just hung her head and said Son…

Papa was a rollin’ stone.
Wherever he laid his hat was his home.
And when he died,
All he left us was alone.

Papa was a rollin’ stone.
Wherever he laid his hat was his home.
And when he died,
All he left us was alone.

Hey Mama,
Is it true, what they say that Papa never worked a day in his life?
And Mama?
Some bad talk goin’ round town,
That Papa had three outside children and another wife.
And that ain’t right!

Heard some talk about Papa doin’ some storefront preachin’.
Talkin’ about savin’ souls, and all the time leachin’.
Dealin’ in dirt!
And stealing in the name of the Lord.

Mama just hung her head and said:

Papa was a rollin’ stone.
Wherever he laid his hat was his home.
And when he died,
All he left us was alone.

Papa was a rollin’ stone.
Wherever he laid his hat was his home.
And when he died,
All he left us was alone.

Hey, Mama, I heard Papa call himself a jack of all trades.
Tell me, is that what sent Papa to an early grave?
Folks say Papa would beg, borrow, or steal to pay his bills.
Hey, Mama, folks say Papa was never much on thinkin’;
Spend most of his time chasin’ women and drinkin’!
Mama, I’m depending on you to tell me the truth.

Mama looked up with a tear in her eye and said:

Papa was a rollin’ stone.
Wherever he laid his hat was his home.
And when he died,
All he left us was alone.

Papa was a rollin’ stone.
Wherever he laid his hat was his home.
And when he died,
All he left us was alone.

SoTD: Mimi And Richard Farina – Bold Marauder

11/28/2008

And it’s hi ho hey, I am a bold marauder
And it’s hi ho hey, I am the white destroyer
For I will show you silver and gold, and I will bring you treasure
I will wave a widowing flag, and I will be your lover
And I will show you grotto and cave and sacrificial alter
And I will show you blood on the stone and I will be your mentor
And night will be our darling and fear will be our name

And it’s hi ho hey, I am the bold marauder
And it’s hi ho hey, I am the white destroyer
For I will take you out by the hand and lead you to the hunter
And I will show you thunder and steel and I will be your teacher
And we will dress in helmet and sword and dip our tongues in slaughter
And we will sing a warrior’s song and lift the praise of murder
And Christ will be our darling and fear will be our name

And it’s hi ho hey, I am the bold marauder
And it’s hi ho hey, I am the white destroyer
For I will sour the winds on high and I will soil the river
And I will burn the grain in the field and I will be your mother
And I will go to ravage and kill and will go to plunder
And I will take a fury to wife and I will be your mother
And death will be our darling and fear will be our name

SoTD: Paul Simon – American Tune

11/27/2008

Many’s the time I’ve been mistaken
And many times confused
Yes, and I’ve often felt forsaken
And certainly misused
Oh, but I’m all right, I’m all right
I’m just weary to my bones
Still, you don’t expect to be
Bright and bon vivant
So far away from home, so far away from home

And I don’t know a soul who’s not been battered
I don’t have a friend who feels at ease
I don’t know a dream that’s not been shattered
or driven to its knees
but it’s all right, it’s all right
for we lived so well so long
Still, when I think of the
road we’re traveling on
I wonder what’s gone wrong
I can’t help it, I wonder what’s gone wrong

And I dreamed I was dying
I dreamed that my soul rose unexpectedly
And looking back down at me
Smiled reassuringly
And I dreamed I was flying
And high up above my eyes could clearly see
The Statue of Liberty
Sailing away to sea
And I dreamed I was flying

We come on the ship they call the Mayflower
We come on the ship that sailed the moon
We come in the age’s most uncertain hours
and sing an American tune
Oh, and it’s alright, it’s all right, it’s all right
You can’t be forever blessed
Still, tomorrow’s going to be another working day
And I’m trying to get some rest
That’s all I’m trying to get some rest

But we goin’ to play it for you
Everybody don’t believe that I want to dance.
Don’t mean that I don’t want to
Jack and Jill went up the hill to have a little fun
Stupid Jill forgot her pill, and now they have a son.

Say Oops Upside Your Head, Say Oops Upside Your Head!

Say it loud, Black
Say Oops Upside Your Head, Say Oops Upside Your Head!

Everybody don’t believe that I want to dance.
Don’t mean that I don’t want to
Changed my groove. Watch out

SoTD: Will Young – Grace

11/25/2008

Feeling so strange I’m seeing you clearly now
Your beauty’s deadlier everyday
All these people am I the only one
Who found you out
Is no one willing to say, willing to say, willing to say

Why don’t you slow down
Turn your head round
Been treading on hearts
That are giving in with a little
Grace – you’re getting away with it
Words – but nothing to say with it
You smile and take what you need in any way that you please
Isn’t it a shame
You’ve
Nothing to show from these
Lies – I told you you’d pay for it
Lonely are the days of your life

You spoke in rhymes and rhythms
The sweetest sounds
They drew me in like a moth to a flame
Oh, all these people you hurt along the way
Will haunt you now
‘Cos things are going to change, going to change, going to change

Why don’t you slow down
Turn your head round
Been treading on hearts
That are giving in with a little
Grace – you’re getting away with it
Words – but nothing to say with it
You smile and take what you need in any way that you please
Isn’t it a shame
You’ve
Nothing to show from these
Lies – I told you you’d pay for it
Lonely are the days of your life

You’re beginning to lose
Things are fading in front of your eyes

You’ve a long way to fall
Before you even realize
That this loneliness hurts
Lonely will be the days of your life
Oh

Grace – you’re getting away with it
Words and nothing to say with it
You blame but you’re not ashamed of it
Hurt – you don’t feel the pain of it
Lie – straight in the face of it
Your mind – you should be afraid of it
Your grace – you’re getting away with it
Nothing to get in my way
With a little grace – you’re getting away with it
Words and nothing to say with it
Lonely are the days of your life

Lonely are the days
You lie – straight in the face of it
Your mind, your mind – you should be afraid
You’re heading for trouble

SoTD: Donny Osmond – Puppy Love

11/24/2008

And they called it puppy love
Oh, I guess they’ll never know
How a young heart really feels
And why I love her so

And they called it puppy love
Just because we’re in our teens
Tell them all, please tell them it isn’t fair
To take away my only dream

I cry each night my tears for you
My tears are all in vain
I’ll hope and I’ll pray that maybe someday
You’ll be back in my arms once again

Someone, help me, help me, help me please
Is the answer up above
How can I, oh how can I tell them
This is not a puppy love

Someone, help me, help me, help me please
Is the answer up above
How can I, oh how can I tell them
This is not a puppy love

Not a puppy love…

SoTD: Big And Rich – 8th Of November

11/23/2008

Hello, I’m Kris Kristofferson
On November 8th, 1965, the 173rd Airborne Brigade on Operation Hump
War Zone D in Vietnam were ambushed by over 1200 V.C.
Forty-eight American soldiers lost their lives that day

Severely wounded and riskin’ his own life, Lawrence Joll, a medic
Was the first livin’ black man since the Spanish-American War
To receive the United States Medal of Honor
For savin’ so many lives in the midst of battle that day

Our friend, Nialls Harris, retired 25 years, United States Army
The guy who gave Big Kenny his top hat
Was one of the wounded who lived
This song is his story

Caught in the action of ‘kill or be killed’
“Greater love hath no man than to lay down his life for a friend”

Said goodbye to his mamma
As he left South Dakota
To fight for the Red, White, and Blue.
He was nineteen and green with a new M-16
Just doing what he had to do.

He was dropped in the jungle
Where the choppers would rumble
With the smell of napalm in the air.
And the sergeant said, “Look up ahead”

Like a dark, evil cloud
1,200 came down
on him and 29 more.
They fought for their lives
But most of them died
In the 173rd Airborne.

On the 8th of November,
The angels were crying
As they carried his brothers away.
With the fire raining down
And the Hell all around
There were few men left standing that day.
Saw the eagle fly,
Through a clear, blue sky
1965, the 8th of November.

Now he’s fifty-eight
And his ponytail’s gray
But the battle still plays in his head.
He limps when he walks,
But he’s strong when he talks
About the shrapnel they left in his leg.

He puts on a gray suit
Over his Airborne tattoo
And He ties it on one time a year
And remembers the fallen,
As he orders a tall one
And swallows it down with his tears.

On the 8th of November,
The angels were crying
As they carried his brothers away.
With the fire raining down
And the Hell all around
There were few men left standing that day.
Saw the eagle fly,

SoTD: The Cyrkle – Red Rubber Ball

11/21/2008

I should have known you’d bid me farewell
There’s a lesson to be learned from this and I learned it very well
Now, I know you’re not the only starfish in the sea
If I never hear your name again, it’s all the same to me

And I think it’s gonna be alright
Yeah, the worst is over now
The mornin’ sun is shinin’ like a red rubber ball

You never care for secrets I confide
For you, I’m just an ornament, somethin’ for your pride
Always runnin’, never carin’, that’s the life you live
Stolen minutes of your time were all you had to give

And I think it’s gonna be alright
Yeah, the worst is over now
The mornin’ sun is shinin’ like a red rubber ball

The story’s in the past with nothin’ to recall
I’ve got my life to live and I don’t need you at all
The roller-coaster ride we took is nearly at an end
I bought my ticket with my tears, that’s all I’m gonna spend

And I think it’s gonna be alright
Yeah, the worst is over now
The mornin’ sun is shinin’ like a red rubber ball

Oh, I think it’s gonna be alright
Yeah, the worst is over now
The mornin’ sun is shinin’ like a red rubber ball
